Sell used wood pallets from your business
Used wood pallets resell when they are a common size, structurally sound and owned by you. The 48 x 40 inch stringer pallet is the most common size in North America, so sound 48 x 40s move most easily. Pooled pallets (painted blue, red or marked with a pool company’s name) are rented, not owned, and can’t be sold by whoever has them.
How do you prepare a lot of wood pallets?
- Pull out any pooled pallets and return them through their pool’s pickup.
- Stack by size; count stacks rather than single pallets.
- Note how many are broken versus sound.
Which questions decide the grade?
The value check asks these for wood pallets:
- Are they your pallets, or pooled (blue, red, stenciled)?
- What size are most of them?
- How many are broken?
Answer them for your wood pallets to see whether the line is likely resale, possible, or disposal.
How much truck space do wood pallets take?
For planning, the truckload calculator counts about 18 units per 48 x 40 floor position: one stack about nine feet tall (roughly six inches per empty pallet). A 53 ft dry van holds about 26 positions loaded straight. Change the figure in the calculator to match how yours are packed.
What size should you write on the lot?
A short description is enough, for example 48x40 stringer. If you have several sizes, use one line per size.
Questions about selling wood pallets
Can I sell CHEP or PECO pallets?
No. Pooled pallets remain the property of the pool company. Contact the pool to have them collected, and list only the pallets you own.
Do broken pallets have any value?
Some do, as repair stock or wood for recycling. A mostly broken pile is usually a disposal line on the quote rather than a payout.
Is there a minimum for wood pallets?
Yes, commercial quantities. The minimum depends on the lot and the pickup location, and the quote states it. Mixing wood pallets with other lines in one lot is the easiest way past it.
